FROM THE DESK OF MS. BILLINGSLEY

Dear Riverglen Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you are beginning to enjoy your summer!

As you know, Mr. McKenna is now the Principal at Borah High School, and I am your new Principal. Well, "new" isn't exactly accurate, because I've had the privilege of serving Riverglen as Assistant Principal for the past school year. In any case, I am thrilled to continue building relationships with students, families, and staff and to carry on the work that Mr. McKenna started three years ago.

There will be a few new faces in our building next school year, along with a few other changes. I will update you all on these changes in early August; however, I did want to introduce you to our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Tovey. Please read more about him in the section below.

As always, our focus has been to provide a safe and welcoming environment for your children. If there is something we can do to support your child and/or family, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Ms. Billingsley

FROM THE DESK OF MR. TOVEY

Riverglen Families,

I’m excited to serve as the Assistant Principal and support our school community!

I’ve been in the Boise School District since 2016, including four years as an assistant principal at Capital High School. Prior to that, I taught math at Hillside Junior High and served as the Alternative Junior High Summer School Principal for two years.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (2015) and Master of Education in Educational Leadership (2019) from Boise State University.

My family and I enjoy mountain biking, skiing, rafting, and paddleboarding.

I’m looking forward to working with the Riverglen students, families, and staff this coming school year.

See you in August,

Mr. Tovey

WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND CAMPUS

NEW POLLINATOR GARDEN

The Riverglen Green Team has been working with BSD Facilities and Administration to create a pollinator garden space in the area near the school entrance.

The students on the Green Team envisioned a pollinator garden with more native plants, as well as a student seating area with a picnic table.

The new garden spans the front of our building and took several weeks to complete. Once non-native plantings were removed, students placed a weed barrier and spread the chat (crushed rock) to create the base. Next, they planted the seedlings grown in Ms. Babner's class, along with other plants, to complete the project.

Special thanks to Mr. Goellner, Ms. Babner, and her students, the Green Team students, and all of our other volunteer students and teachers.

Next time you are on campus, please take a look at our new pollinator garden!

9TH GRADE AWARDS ASSEMBLY

Riverglen 9th Graders earned 51 Teacher and Superlative awards. Additionally, 47 students received the President's Award for Educational Excellence.

Please join us in congratulating our Riverglen 9th graders!

FRESHMEN FAREWELL

Four young people are sitting on blankets on the grass, enjoying a sunny day.
Six young people stand on a grassy field in front of a volleyball net.
Three young women stand on a grassy field next to a cornhole board.
Three people smile while preparing food at an outdoor grill, with a car and buildings in the background.
Riverglen 9th graders spent one of the last days of the school year enjoying several different activities.

Following the Awards Assembly, students loaded buses for a morning of bowling and snacks. Upon returning to school, 9th graders were treated to hot dogs and hamburgers grilled by our very own Mr. Goodin, Ms. DeVito, and Mr. Shockley.

After lunch, students enjoyed outside activities and games such as volleyball, cornhole, and basketball.

We wish them all the best at Capital next year!

COACHES NEEDED!

Riverglen offers 12 sports across four seasons, providing opportunities for both competition and skill development. We are always looking for qualified and dedicated coaches and scorekeepers to support our student-athletes. If you are interested in getting involved in our athletics programs, please reach out to me at patrick.taylor@boiseschools.org.

Our most immediate needs for the fall season are in tennis and football. However, if you are interested in supporting any of our other programs, please don’t hesitate to connect.

AKTIVATE TO RANK ONE TRANSITION

For the 2026/2027 school year, Boise School District will be using Rank One, a new online platform to manage all things athletics. We will no longer be using Aktivate. If you have documents on Aktivate that you need access to, please follow the instructions using the link below.

All incoming 7th graders and 9 graders will need a sports physical for all sports and PE.
